Mangas

Once again, Mangas are everywhere in Japan. This picture was taken in Tokyo City Dome and it is a girl saying “hi”. I think it is an advertising but I don’t know for what or for which company since I don’t understand Japanese !

Cute Little Girl

I was shopping this weekend in Shibuya 109 (the shopping mall exclusively for girls!) and some people were distributing these big pictures describing the Kid’s program. This big little girl’s head with freckles and red cheeks is so cute!

Girl loves boy

This picture is a poster for a store located in Harajuku. “Girl loves boy”, funny name for a store! Look at the small hearts red, pink and purple, isn’t it cute? Actually, after seeing this poster I went to the shop and it was a kind of a store of girly stuffs for hair and make up. And of course I bought some!

Huge Hello Kitty

This is me standing next to a huge Hello Kitty! I saw it in front on a Family Mart in Harajuku and I couldn’t resist to take a picture with it. I just love HK (Hello Kitty not Hong Kong!).

Cute dolls

I took this picture in the metro. I think it’s a commercial for a hairdresser according to the different hairstyle of the girl. Once again, the girl is nor a real one but a kind of cute little doll. In France, this kind of advertising would suppose that it is a hairdresser for children. But in Japan you never know!

The Hello Kitty's drink

Yes ! The Hello Kitty’s drink does exist here in Tokyo… What a cute way to drink you might say ! I found this drink in Akihabara, it didn’t buy it so I don’t even know what it’s made of. Anyway, it looks delicious. Yummy !

Manga of schoolgirls on the floor

I took this picture at the exit of Akihabara’s station and it is located on the floor. As you know, Japan is the country of manga and this picture prove it. It represents two schoolgirls laughing and smiling. It is cute because of the colors and the drawing itself. Even on the floor Tokyo is cute

Advertising with Mickey and Minnie

This picture is an advertising for the Japan’s largest oil company called Eneos. As you can see, the commercial use, once again, animated characters and this time they come from Disney! Actually, Mickey and Minnie represent the parents of a family with lots of children. This is a kind of “ideal” family enjoying their dinner all together thanks to Eneos! Again, Japanese use unreal people as a way to sell goods and even services. In France, such a thing is just unimaginable.

Kiddyland

Have you ever been to Kiddyland ?? This store located in Harajuku and it is a whole universe of cute. The slogan tells it all: “Kiddyland helps keep your mind, body and soul youthful, now and forever”. Hello Kitty, Snoopy, Miffy, Disney characters and many more all concentrated in one store !! That is to say a real paradise for children over five floors…
I couldn’t resist myself by buying a cuddly toy of Miffy (the little white rabbit), which is on the picture above.

Cute firemen !

I just love this picture! I was walking in the street this afternoon, in Roppongi exactly, when I saw that on the floor in the middle of the street. It represents firemen fighting against the fire, which is normal for the moment. But the colors, the writings on the top and the drawing itself make it so cute don’t you think? Cute things are everywhere in Tokyo, even where you don’t expect them. Well, as you can see trough my blog, Tokyo is a strange city but very surprising at the time!

Baby penguins in the metro !

Like many people in Tokyo, I take the metro to move around the city. I was very surprised when I took the metro for the first time. Not only it is very clean but also, once again, it becomes cute to take the metro. On the card that I use, there is a drawing baby penguin!! The name of this card is Suica and it is very useful as you can recharge it when there is no more credit. On the picture above, you can see an advertising for one of those cards. Yes, taking the metro here in Tokyo can be a cute adventure!

Hello Kitty and the firemen !

Hello Kitty is very famous here in Japan, he is present everywhere. On the picture above, Hello Kitty represents the firemen of Tokyo. A funny way to express an idea and to make sure the message is understood. I took this picture when I was in Akihabara this weekend and it wasn’t the first time I saw it. I love the way Japanese make things funnier and entertaining.

Small introduction

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Joséphine Blaquier and I’m a student at ISG, which is a business school in Paris, France. I have chosen to do my studies abroad and especially in Tokyo for two months. There, I study at Temple University Japan and I have interesting courses such as Japan Today. My professor, William Swinton, asked us to do a blog and to choose a topic for which I care. As you can see, I have chosen “Tokyo is cute”. But why such an idea? Well, since it is my first time in Tokyo, I have noticed that pretty much of everything looks cute. Let me explain. Japanese use colors, animals, drawings, and even imaginary characters to sell or to explain something. And that’s one of the thing I have noticed since my first day in Tokyo. Furthermore, as you can see on the picture, I love cuddly toys and it’s part of my childhood. In consequences, this blog is dedicated to everything that makes Tokyo as a cute town with pictures of my own.
